EXPERIENCE PORT MACQUARIE WOMEN'S SHED

Building confidence, capability and connections

Mental wellbeing is at the forefront of our purpose, especially now, and our programs and activities are designed to help women connect and build both confidence and capability through learning trade-like skills and more. Learn more about the positive impact we have and join us in bringing about positive change.

PORT MACQUARIE WOMEN'S SHED AT A GLANCE

It all started with a notice on a Buy-Swap-Sell site. One woman wanted to get things done and looked for other women who wanted things done. Hundreds of women answered the call and on 4th October 2015, the PMQ Women's Shed was born. It has morphed and changed with women's needs and has become a vibrant and inclusive part of the Hastings community. That's thanks to the dedication of a team of wonderful women who support the need for a Women's Shed in the Hastings and those who volunteer to keep it functioning. We have recently found land and will build our permanent home over the next 12 months. It will be located behind the Hibbard Sports Club.

ACTIVITIES

Something for every woman to build skills, confidence and connections

WOODCRAFT AND TOOLS

Learn how to use tools, make wood products or work on your own project. We have a fully equipped shed and provide instruction in the use of tools. Skilling women to be more self-sufficient is one of our key drivers. Workshops have included making tool caddies, small boxes, jigsaw wood animals, Christmas trees, picture frames and more. Tools used include wood lathe, drill press, thicknesser, saws, power drills, as well as a range of hand tools. Want to learn/make something? Just ask!

CLEAN CRAFTS

Knit and Natter or Crochet and Chatter are held regularly. Workshops occur to make specific items or work your own project.  We've made care packages for women's refuges, Christmas packs for serving Defence personnel overseas, pouches and pockets for dislocated wildlife and more. Workshops have included mosaic, beading, making tote bags, making bunting, creating gift boxes, decorating Christmas plates and more. If you don't knit or crochet or sew, we can teach you to knit, crochet or sew, or just come for the chat and coffee/tea.

SOCIAL CONNECTION

Developing woodworking or clean craft skills is our key focus - and we like to have fun, too.  Organised events include day trips to local places of interest, lunches or dinners at restaurants, cafes and clubs as well as occasional coffee catch-ups and movie outings. Want to do something but would like company? See if another Shedder is interested by posting on our Active Members Facebook page. Suggestions for social gatherings are welcome. We're a friendly bunch :)

KEEPING US SAFE

It's up to every individual - we look after each other

Covid-19 is still with us. We rely on every member and visitor abiding by health requirements - safe distancing, good hygiene practice, not attending if ANY symptoms, and having the CovidSafe app. Not following these puts each of us at risk and may void our insurance so we appreciate your compliance. Let's SHEd safely!!
